Pam Marron "Retired" from Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc (MBII) in 2020

Pam Marrone "retired" from Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc. in 2020 after a series of troubles for the company including a potential cash shortage, an accounting scandal and a 94% drop in their share price.

  • In June 2016, MBII announced it had obtained a concession from lenders that could help it weather a potential cash shortage. The deal came a week after the lawyer for a group of Marrone shareholders said the company was in danger of running out of cash later this year.
  • The week before this concession was approved, MBII agreed to pay $12 million to settle a series of shareholder lawsuits over an accounting scandal that had dogged the company for nearly two years. In a court filing, shareholders' attorney Michael McGaughey said the settlement was the best investors could expect in light of the company's worsening financial position. The settlement is to paid with insurance money.

The company announced Marrone's "retirement" on December 2, 2019. They said "Marrone Bio will undertake a search for a successor." Usually, senior management changes in large corporations are planned years in advance, so this was a sudden and unexpected "retirement." The announcement followed years of financial troubles and a 94% decline in Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc.’s share price since January 2014.
